SAVE THE ANIMALS: DO IT

These are a couple of pics of the last few pups I had the opportunity of fostering. For those who don’t know, places like the RSPCA and The Animal Welfare League need temporary foster parents for animals such as puppies, dogs, cats and kittens to free up space in their shelters, to look after until their old enough to be adopted, or to just give them a chance at a normal home life outside of the shelter. They are always needing more helpers and it’s an amazing experience for anyone who loves animals to help out. For me and for many people out there wanting to help, you may not have money to donate but you may have the time. The only downfall? Giving them back. I have managed to break down in tears on many occasions but I know they are going to a wonderful home. So what are you waiting for? Go out and sign up at your local shelter, you may be cuddling one of these pups before you know it!

I’m also shocked sometimes at the lack of awareness people have in regards to animal cruelty. It’s really not people’s fault because if given the chance, I know most people would never choose to support cruelty to animals if there was an alternative option. Case in point: pet shops. Majority of the public don’t realize how evil pet shop chains actually are and many found out recently after the huge breakthrough by PETA into U.S. Global Exotics who supply animals to ALL major pet stores. If you have not yet heard the story or seen photos of what was uncovered I urge you to do so. Stay educated! There's absolutely NO need to buy a pet from the pet store or a breeder when the shelters are overflowing.

P.S. Sorry for the not-so-lighthearted post. Some things just need to be said.

NEW YEAR, NEW HOARD OF CLOTHES

So, following on from the previous post, after many weeks of ebaying, market stalls and trips to the local rspca op shop, I have successfully sold and given away a large portion of my wardrobe. I am proud to say that one half of my closet is now simple and minimalist and looks like this:

Now I am aware that this is only a small collection of basic t-shirts and skirts and that is why I am not yet showing you the other half of my closet. I will however, show you what I like to call my "extended" closet, filled with 99% vintage pieces that are 99% never been worn because they are either a) too outrageous for my little self or b) never can and never will quite fit me. Luckily for you, you just may be able to pull them off without looking like an idiot or they just may fit you, which is why I will be selling these items to you in the coming weeks. Get excited!

THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE

I have an unhealthy obsession with wardrobes, and no, not just because I may one day travel to the magical land of Narnia. Now, I am not your average fashion blogger, I am not much into shopping, labels or trends but more so creating a beautiful world around me with my most loved possessions; clothes, hats, jewellery, books, magazines and odd pieces of furniture. I find myself spending a lot of time creating a beautiful sanctuary of these possessions in my bedroom and I find it amusing that all this time is spent for my eyes only.

It’s not just my own wardrobe though, I LOVE the thought of looking into someone else’s collection of worldly possessions. Someone should publish a book of photos looking into people’s closets. Style icons, musicians, models, ordinary people… Or better yet, someone should open a boutique with collections of vintage and new clothing, shoes, jewellery etc into different lavish walk in robes. Perhaps segmented into a particular individual’s style such as a 90’s Kate Moss wardrobe. It could include everything from evening gowns to cut off levi’s as well as jewellery boxes and racks of shoes. Now that would beat looking at endless racks of the same shiny new clothes in a department store.

FEATHERS IN MY HEAD

So the summer holidays have made me turn back to my childhood days of art and craft. These beaded and charm bracelets as well as bead and feather necklaces and feather headbands are in the process of being perfected. Many more designs are also on the way including native american inspired headbands as well as boho daisy chains.
